Do I need an appointment for an exotic pet?
Yes. Call us at (804) 594-3545 to schedule an appointment. Exotic pet exams require dedicated time and sometimes specialized equipment, so advance scheduling helps us provide the best care.
How should I transport my exotic pet to the clinic?
Transport depends on species. Birds should be in a secure carrier with perches. Reptiles can travel in cloth bags inside a carrier. Small mammals do well in small animal carriers. Fish should be in clean water in a sealed container. Call us if you have questions about safe transport for your specific pet.
How often does my exotic pet need a wellness exam?
Most exotic species benefit from annual or semi-annual wellness exams. Some species, particularly birds and senior exotic pets, may benefit from twice-yearly visits. We'll recommend a schedule based on your pet's species, age, and health status.
What should I bring to my exotic pet's first visit?
Bring any previous medical records, a list of your pet's current diet (including brand names and amounts), photos of your pet's habitat setup, and any medications or supplements your pet is currently taking. A fresh stool sample can be helpful for parasite screening.
