Our veterinarians

Passionate people. Compassionate care.

Passionate people are the heart of Lucks Lane Veterinary Clinic. Our veterinary team is built around doctors who genuinely love what they do — whether that's working through a tricky feline endocrine case, untangling a chronic dental problem, or caring for a bearded dragon or a backyard chicken. We see companion animals and exotics every day, and we've assembled a team with the breadth to do both well.

Each doctor brings something distinct: a background in public health, a deep focus on dentistry and feline medicine, a passion for exotic species, or a comfort with the small patients that other clinics turn away. The question we hear most from new clients is "do you actually see rabbits?" or "have you treated birds before?" — the answer, in every case, is yes. We do. That's the clinic we set out to build.

Veterinarian

Dr. Sara de Wet, DVM, MPH

Veterinarian · Dentistry & Feline Medicine · Veterinary Public Health

Dr. Sara de Wet is a Virginia native and a proud double Hokie, having earned both her undergraduate degree and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech. She also holds a Master's in Public Health from the University of Kentucky. Before entering clinical practice, she spent many years in veterinary public health, bringing a unique perspective and unusually broad experience to the care she provides every day at Lucks Lane.

Her clinical passions are dentistry and feline medicine. She is the doctor most likely to spend extra time walking through a dental treatment plan, explaining exactly why a tooth needs to come out and what the mouth will feel like once it does. She believes dental pain is chronically underdiagnosed in cats and dogs, and she is methodical about finding it.

Her public health background shapes how she thinks about zoonotic disease, preventive care, and the relationship between pet health and family health. She is deeply committed to providing the highest quality care to each and every patient — from the most nervous cat to the most stoic senior Lab.

Outside the clinic, Dr. de Wet shares life with her husband Bradley — a Richmond native, entrepreneur, and, in her words, the love of her life — along with three cats and one dog. She is a loyal Arsenal FC supporter, an avid reader, and is doing her best to enjoy golf and gardening, though she cheerfully admits she's charmingly mediocre at both.

Three cats and a dog. Dr. de Wet has three cats and one dog at home. She will tell you about each of them at length if you ask, and the cats will almost certainly appear in a photo on the clinic's social media before long.
Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Allison Robbins, DVM

Associate Veterinarian · Companion Animal & Exotic Species Medicine

Dr. Allison Robbins joined the Lucks Lane team with a strong foundation in companion animal medicine and a genuine enthusiasm for the clinic's exotic patient population. She is comfortable across a wide range of species — dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, and more — which makes her a natural fit for a practice that sees everything from Labrador Retrievers to leopard geckos.

Her approach to appointments is unhurried and thorough. She is the doctor most likely to pull up a research article mid-appointment to walk a client through the reasoning behind a treatment choice, and she takes continuing education in exotic species medicine seriously, attending updates through the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and similar organizations.

Dr. Robbins is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association. She is committed to the Fear Free philosophy and works to make every visit — for nervous cats, high-energy dogs, and wide-eyed rabbits alike — as calm and low-stress as possible.

She lives in the Richmond area with her own pets and is a familiar face to clients in Chesterfield, Midlothian, and the surrounding communities. If you have a question about an exotic species, she is a great first call.

Her own crew. Dr. Robbins shares her home with pets of her own — naturally. Ask her about them at your next appointment.
Exotic Animal Veterinarian

Dr. [Name], DVM

Exotic Animal Medicine · Avian, Reptile & Small Mammal

Lucks Lane Veterinary Clinic treats a wide variety of exotic species — birds (including parrots and backyard poultry), reptiles (lizards, turtles, tortoises, snakes), amphibians, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and other pocket pets. Our exotic-focused team member brings dedicated training and hands-on experience with species that many general practices are not equipped to see.

Exotic animal medicine requires a different set of reference ranges, different anesthetic protocols, and a different kind of physical exam. Our exotic veterinarian approaches each species on its own terms — understanding the natural behaviors, husbandry requirements, and species-specific disease presentations that shape how a bird or reptile shows illness versus how a dog or cat would.

If you have a rabbit with dental problems, a bearded dragon who has stopped eating, a parrot with a respiratory concern, or a turtle with shell damage, this is the practice for you. We are one of the Richmond-area clinics actively seeing exotic species on a regular basis, not as an occasional exception.

This profile will be updated with full biographical details shortly. In the meantime, call the clinic to confirm availability for your specific exotic species — we are happy to answer species questions before you book.

Bio coming soon. We'll have a full profile and photo here shortly. Call us at (804) 594-3545 with any questions about exotic species appointments.

Tell the front desk who you'd like to see at booking. If you don't have a preference, our team will match by availability and species type — including exotic patients.
